I believe we started out at 5:05am today… gotta switch it up once in a while ![]()
My current route leads me to start out today’s journey in a beautiful canyon. To my right a wild river, to my left cliff faces rising higher and higher – often with the wildest color combinations. I took one picture after the other, I couldn’t get enough.
I was surprised by my legs, which – despite yesterday’s wind torture – feel great. You know the secret of the pros – fitline Restorate!
By the time I exited the canyon and had breakfast, I had already left 50 km of today’s distance behind me. Renergized, we went on through a wide valley with a beautiful view on the soon approaching elevation of Monarch Pass, the highest of its kind in the Rocky’s – it was our time to conquer these 3448 meters. After 50 km we reached the “entry level” of the mountain. My teammate Mark could not handle it to join me in my attack of the 18km climb. Once at the summit, I was somewhat disappointed with the panorama; after all it’s “just” a ski hill, which probably looks much “friendlier” in the winter. A few quick photos and off I went because I had spotted pitch-black clouds on the horizon and could see and hear lightning and thunder in the distance. Nevertheless, there was still time for small talk with some nice Harley riders.
I continued my journey. After a few kilometers it started to pour down hard, fortunately I could find shelter in our mobile home. A nice pasta meal and a power nap were parts of my recovery program
Feeling revived I took on the last 50km to reach my destination for the day – Wal Mart in Gunnison, Colorado.
Tomorrow we continue on this dream road, Highway No. 50!
See you soon
