Flag of Honor
The Flag of Honor and the Flag of Heroes were created with the sincere intention of honoring the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001. John Michelotti developed them while recuperating from emergency bypass surgery. Being suddenly faced with his own mortality he was especially sensitive to the fate of the victims. In his heart he felt that the victims should never be relegated to mere numbers but must always be remembered as individual lives.
The flag of Honor contains the names of all the victims of September 11th. The Flag of Heroes contains the names of the emergency services personell who gave their lives so that other might live. Both flags have gotten a very warm reception from all who have seen them. They are a memorial not limited to NYC, Washington and Pennsylvania and an everlasting connection to the events and victims of the day. John is proud that the flags hang in Governor Pataki’s office, Senators Schumer and Clinton’s office, and the lower Manhattan Development Corporation offices overlooking Ground Zero. Mayor Bloomberg and Mayor Giuliani also have them. He has also gotten requests from around the world for flags.
As the years pass and memories dull, the Flags will continue to tell the human story of that day
