Curriculum vitae
The most important stepstones in Achims life:
- Born on September, 25 in Wuppertal/Germany
- With 14 years he leaves school and enters „real life“
- Apprenticeship and first job experience in a freight forwarding company. It’s the trucks that caught him and he trades the office chair for the drivers seat.
- The street turns into home, professionaly in the truck, privately on a motorcycle. He loves the challenge of long distance, crazy itineraries like Wuppertal – Eiger north wall (Alps) for a coffee – Wuppertal – nonstop.
- With 34 he has a serious motorcycle accident. No severe injuries but fear and the uncomfortable feeling lead to a change in his life.
- 1983 moving to Mittenwald/Bavaria, leaving the motorcycle behind.
- 1984 a friend talks him into participating in a New Year’s Eve run. Untrained, running in a regular pullover and textile sneakers he finishes in the good mid field and starts running as a sport soon after.
- Nine month later his first marathon in Berlin, finishes in 3:03h
- 1993 best marathon result: 2:29,26 h in Zurich
- moves to Nürnberg/Bavaria
- 1990 first 100 km race in Hanau, Germany (7:46h)
- 1997 first 24 hour race
- 1998 first 48 hour race
- 1998 aross Italy from the Brenner to Trapani/Sicilia – 1.770 km in 16 days 8 hours 30 minutes
- 1999 around the island of Mallorca / Spain: 357 km in 46 hours 51 minutes
- 2000 German Champion in the 24 hour race
- 2000 across Europe from the North Cape to Trapani/Sicilia: 5.735 km in 55 days 6 hours 45 minutes
- 2001 record run trough Germany, from the lowest point 3,54 m below sea level to the highest point (Zugspitze) with 2.964 m elevation: 1.154,9 km in 6 days 21 hours 15 minutes = 4 marathons per day
- 2001 defends his title as German Champion in the 24 hour race
- 2002 1.000 mile race of Hamburg, 11 days, 18 hours, 30 minutes and 54 seconds make him the second fastest runner on this distance until today
- 2004 Yukon Artic Ultra Race – 300 miles at -42°C
- 2004 winner of the Six Days Run of Düsseldorf/Germany
- race across Australia from Perth to Sydney – 4.568 km in 43 days 13 hours and 8 minutes
- 2006 „10 times Ironman“ world champion in 9 days 19 hours 34 minutes and 43 seconds
- 2007 Badwater Ultra Race at 52°C, 217 km 33 hours 2 minutes and 43 seconds
- 2008 Ten-day-race of New York with 701 miles
- 2009 2nd crossing of europe from Bari to the north cape (4.500 km)
- 2009 „Trans Alpine“ run 240 km with 15.300 m elevation gain
- 2009 moving to Konstanz / Germany
- 2010 start of the preparation fort he project „Coast2Coastandback“
