The Project
The Project
The 10th anniversary of the attacks of the World Trade Center will commence on 11th of September 2011.
One of the best extreme runners in the world, Achim Heukemes, spontaneously commemorated the victims in a very special way by having the American flag and the destiny stricken date tattooed on his left upper arm.
Ten years after these attacks he wants to participate in the anniversary in his very special way.
He intends to cross the American continent – but not just a single one but even TWICE. He is going to start on 25 June 2011 in NY with a racing bicycle and 6000 km (3,729 miles) later he will arrive in San Diego. This means he has to cycle 250 km (155 miles) every day, without taking a single day of recovery. Arriving in San Diego he will immediately prepare for his return trip, however, this time without the bicycle, he will be running back to New York, covering a distance of 5000 km (3107 miles). Again without taking any recovery days and he has to run at least 90 km (56 miles) per day. This means he has to cover more than 2 marathons for 55 continuous days.
His objective is to arrive in New York on the 11th of September 2011 at the newly arising World Trade Center. He then will have covered the distance of 11000 km (6,835 miles).
Additionally it will be a present to himself for his birthday, not the thirties not the forties and even not the fifties. Achim will turn 60 only a few days after finalizing the double continental crossing.
Unbelievable ? Not for Achim and those who know his projects. This will be his fourth continental crossing in the last 10 years and again he will be the first person ever to accomplish something this special – the combination between bicycling and running both consecutively.
Achim Heukemes has continuously promoted good causes and people who need help as for example when he crossed Australia in 2005 to support the victims of the Tsunami catastrophe. This initiative helped to supply 70,000 people with fresh water and a warm meal.
This special project crossing the American continent twice is supposed to benefit the victims and the family of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Achim,
It was great meeting you and I look forward to working with you to make your effort successful. I am truely in AWE of you.

Dear Achim,
We just found your “little” project and we are really impressed about you as an unbelievable athlete and your dedication for the victims and families of 9/11.
We wish you all the best for this challenge.

You should donate to Tuesday’s Children http://www.tuesdayschildren.org who provide programs and services to the families that lost loved ones on September 11, 2001.
I’ve just know from the post about the great project of Achim. Really his all accomplishment is surprised me, I will discuss with my friend about his all successfulness. Thanks pal for sharing with us.
